COULTHARD COLLECTION
The Coulthard Collection is the result of record collecting over many years by George H. Coulthard and the organizing and indexing of the collection by the Indexing Group of the Morris Area Genealogy Society.
In 2014, George Coulthard donated an extensive collection of death certificates and obituaries to the North Jersey History and Genealogy Center of the Morristown and Morris Township Library. Also given was a smaller collection of birth and Marriage records and miscellaneous material.
The collection was sorted by location, town or township in Morris County or by other New Jersey areas and miscellaneous states and placed in three ring binders. In some cases sorting was also by cemetery. The handwriting on many records was very difficult to decipher. Mr. Coulthard added his interpretation and information from personal knowledge to many records which was very helpful. The remaining records were interpreted as accurately as possible. However, the researcher is advised to consider alternate spellings of names when searching the records.
A more detailed description of this collection can be found in the September 2023 MAGS Newsletter, starting on page 4.
Below are links to the index of each volume. There are 17 volumes over 29 binders, all physically located at the Morristown-Morris Township Library, downstairs at the North Jersey History and Genealogy Center. These binders contain copies of the vital records and newspaper columns.
